THE SILK PROJECT

Created in 2018, after the loss of my heart horse SILK, I wanted to encourage the connection and positive partnership of young girls by using horses to help with the goals of building self-esteem, trust, and quality relationships.

After I lost my heart horse SILK my heart told me I needed to do something with my love of horses and my desire to help young girls with the things I struggled with growing up.  Having my own horses really helped me through my adolescent years.  I suffered from low self-esteem, not trusting myself or others, making poor decisions, not having a lot of friends, getting teased, feeling alone, sad and angry.  Even today, there are times I struggle with these emotions.  But my horses are the best therapy for healing, listening, compassion, and helping me through it.

Purpose of this Project is to assist and offer the opportunity for girls to be able to purchase their own horse.  They must propose a plan on how they will be able to make payments, provide food, shelter, any maintenance and care, learn to work with and train horse, learn to build and understand a positive relationship with a horse, build trust, and have the support and permission of their parent or guardian. The SILK PROJECT will provide the opportunity to learn financial payment obligations, by providing contractual terms and payment plans.  It provides the opportunity for girls to purchase a horse on a payment plan.  The end goal is for the girl and horse to build a successful relationship, and that the girl and the horse build a lasting partnership.
